A short companion to the illustrated chapter, not a full transcript.

A movement becomes easier to understand when you connect the grievance, the people involved and their method of protest.

What brought people together?

In Andhra, economic problems, education and newspapers helped shape nationalist activity. Earlier political associations used petitions and deputations. Later campaigns brought more people into collective action.

Follow one example

The Chirala-Perala Satyagraha concerned municipal taxation. Duggirala Gopalakrishnayya led the campaign. Link the local issue to organised participation, then compare it with another movement in the illustrated chapter.

Read the answer and explanation
