How daytime energy can help after sunset

A short companion to the illustrated chapter, not a full transcript.

Solar panels need sunlight, but electricity demand continues after sunset. Storage helps bridge that difference in timing.

What storage does

A battery can store energy produced earlier and release it later. Energy is converted into a stored form and then recovered; some is lost in the process. Storage does not create extra energy.

Two different capacities

Power capacity describes how quickly a system can deliver energy. Energy capacity describes how much it can hold. Both matter when judging how long storage can support a particular demand.

Try the idea

What allows solar energy collected earlier to support demand after sunset?

  1. Storing energy for later use
  2. Making panels work without sunlight
  3. Eliminating all conversion losses
Read the answer and explanation

Storing energy for later use. Storage shifts when energy is available. Its usable capacity and delivery rate still limit what it can supply.
