What age limit did the last APPSC notifications set?

APPSC's Group 2 notification 11/2023 and Group 1 notification 12/2023 set 18 to 42 years for most posts. Age was counted on 1 July of the year the notification came out, so for the December 2023 notifications it was 1 July 2023. Several groups got more time on the upper limit, shown in the table below.

For Group 1 in 2026, para 5.2 of notification 07/2026 gives the first four rows of this table again, with the same years. It adds one row: retrenched temporary employees of the State Census Department with at least six months of service get three years.

The upper limit is the part that moves, because it rests on a government order. This kind of order is called a relaxation order: it allows more years than the usual limit. The next section looks at the one for 2026.

What is the APPSC upper age limit in 2026?

For non-uniform APPSC posts it is 44. The usual limit in the service rules is 34. Since G.O.Ms.No.396 of 5 November 2016 the Andhra Pradesh government has raised it to 42 by order and renewed that order from time to time. G.O.Ms.No.187 of 14 September 2026 raised it to 44, for posts notified through APPSC and other recruiting agencies up to 30 September 2027.

The 42 was renewed many times after 2016. G.O.Ms.No.187 lists the orders it builds on: G.O.105 of 2021, G.O.101 of 30 September 2022, G.O.109 of 10 October 2023, G.O.Ms.No.36 of 4 March 2025 and G.O.Ms.No.109 of 8 October 2025. The new order changes two things in the 2016 rule: "34 to 42 years" becomes "34 to 44 years", and the end date becomes 30 September 2027.

Three points in the order decide whom it covers. It is for posts in non-uniform services. It does not apply to uniformed posts in Police, Excise, Fire, Prisons, Forest and Transport where physical standards are set. Those posts have their own bands, and a separate order of the same day, G.O.Ms.No.188, keeps two extra years on them up to 30 September 2027. And the concessions under Rule 12 of the state service rules still apply on top of the 44, as they did on top of the 42.

If you will be 42 or younger on the counting date, the change does not touch you for most posts. If you will be 43 or 44, the order brings you inside the general limit for non-uniform posts notified up to 30 September 2027. If your category has a concession, add it to 44, not to 42.

For Group 1, the commission has now applied the 44. Para 5.1 of notification 07/2026 sets the bands as on 1 July 2026, "as per Rule 12" of the state service rules, read with G.O.Ms.No.187 and G.O.Ms.No.188. Eleven of its 13 posts run 18 to 44. For Group 2, plan on 44 for non-uniform posts and read the age paragraph of its notification when it comes. The order sets the rule for the state. The notification applies it to each post, and that line is the one you are held to.

About the other 44. A limit of 44 was also set for DSC 2025, the teacher recruitment, under G.O.Ms.No.14 of 17 April 2025. That order covered teacher posts only. The APPSC limit of 44 comes from a different order, G.O.Ms.No.187 of 2026.

On which date is my APPSC age counted?

For APPSC Group 1 in 2026, your age is counted on 1 July 2026. Para 5.1 of the detailed notification 07/2026, dated 6 October 2026, says so, and its post table prints each band "as on 01.07.2026". The last notifications, 11/2023 and 12/2023, also counted on 1 July. The Group 2 2026 notification will state its own date.

The checker uses 18 to 44 and adds five years for SC, ST, BC and EWS, or ten for people with benchmark disabilities, as para 5.2 of notification 07/2026 does. It does not handle ex-servicemen, NCC instructors, serving state employees or retrenched Census staff, because their extra time depends on your own service record. Read their line in para 5.2.

If your birthday falls within a few days of 1 July, do not rely on any calculator, including this one. Read the exact wording of para 5.1 in the notification.

Which APPSC posts have a tighter age band?

In APPSC Group 1 notification 07/2026, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Civil) runs 21 to 30 and DSP (Communications) 18 to 30, counted on 1 July 2026. The other 11 posts run 18 to 44. In Group 2 notification 11/2023, Prohibition and Excise Sub Inspector ran 18 to 30. If one of these is your target post, its own line decides your plan.

Notification 07/2026 lists 36 of its 166 Group 1 vacancies as Deputy Superintendent of Police (Civil), 3 of them carried forward from earlier recruitments. G.O.Ms.No.81 of 22 August 2026, which sanctioned 149, also had 36. That is about one post in five, on a band that closes at 30. It also lists 3 posts of DSP (Communications). The physical standards for uniform posts are in Annexure V of the notification. In Group 2, 25 of the 673 posts are Prohibition and Excise Sub Inspector, and 7 are Sub-Registrar Grade 2, where you must be at least 20.

What degree do I need for APPSC Group 1 and Group 2?

APPSC Group 1 and Group 2 ask for a bachelor's degree. A few posts ask for a named subject, such as economics or law. For most posts a degree in arts, science, commerce or engineering is equally valid, as it was in notifications 11/2023 and 12/2023.

If your target post names a subject, that line sits in the post-wise table of the detailed notification. Check it on the same day you check the age paragraph. For Group 1 in 2026 you must hold the degree on the date of the detailed notification, as para 3 of the detailed notification says, so on 6 October 2026. DSP (Communications) asks for a B.E. or B.Tech in electronics and communication, electronics and telecommunication, or radio engineering.
