Step 2Why your district has its own number
Andhra Pradesh fills most government posts area by area. The state has 6 zones, grouped into 2 multi-zones: Zones 1 to 3 form Multi-zone I and Zones 4 to 6 form Multi-zone II. The map colours show them.
The rule keeps 95% of each list for local candidates of that area and fills the rest on merit from locals and non-locals together (Para 6.3 and 13.5). In the notification's own post table (Annexure I), 21 posts in the area lists are marked open. With the 3 DSP (Communications) posts, which have no local quota, 24 of the 166 posts are open to everyone.
You are local to the area where you studied for four years in a row, up to and including Class 7 (usually Class 4 to 7). If you did not go to school in those years, the area where you lived counts.
Eleven of the 13 kinds of post are filled multi-zone by multi-zone. Assistant Audit Officer is filled zone by zone. DSP (Communications) is filled for the whole state. So your district's number is your multi-zone's posts, plus your zone's audit posts, plus the 3 state-wide posts.

Questions people ask
How many APPSC Group 1 2026 posts are there for my district?
Between 74 and 85 of the 166, depending on your zone (Zone 1: 76, Zone 2: 76, Zone 3: 74, Zone 4: 82, Zone 5: 85, Zone 6: 84). Your number counts your multi-zone's posts, your zone's Assistant Audit Officer posts and the 3 state-wide DSP (Communications) posts. Every district in a zone has the same number.
Who is a local candidate for APPSC Group 1 2026?
You are local to the area where you studied for four years in a row, up to and including Class 7 (usually Class 4 to 7). If you did not study in those years, the area where you lived counts. Study certificates are the proof (notification Para 7.2).
What are Multi-zone I and Multi-zone II?
Andhra Pradesh has six zones in two multi-zones. Multi-zone I is Zones 1 to 3: the north coastal, Godavari and Krishna delta districts. Multi-zone II is Zones 4 to 6: central coastal and Rayalaseema. Eleven of the 13 Group 1 post types are filled multi-zone by multi-zone.
Can I get a Group 1 post outside my zone?
Yes, through the open posts. Each list keeps 95% of its posts for local candidates of that area (Para 6.3) and fills the rest on merit from everyone (Para 13.5). Annexure I marks 21 open posts in the area lists, and the 3 DSP (Communications) posts have no local quota, so 24 of the 166 are open to everyone.
When do I choose my post and zone in APPSC Group 1?
Not when you apply. The notification says post, multi-zone and zone preferences are taken online before the Main exam (Para 1.6). Applications run from 6 to 27 October 2026 and the Screening Test is on 24 January 2027.
What is the age limit for DSP in APPSC Group 1 2026?
Deputy Superintendent of Police (Civil) is 21 to 30 years and DSP (Communications) 18 to 30, as on 1 July 2026. The other eleven posts are 18 to 44. SC, ST, BC and EWS candidates get five more years (Para 5.1 and 5.2).
